Iran Signs Helicopter Purchase Agreement with Russia
The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) signed a contract on Thursday with the 'Russian Helicopters' company to supply helicopters for rescue operations. This was reported by IRNA news agency, as noted by TASS.
According to the agency, the head of the society, Karim Hemmati, stated, 'The Red Crescent Society of Iran plays an active role in the elimination of disaster consequences and organizing rescue operations both in the country and abroad.' He signed the agreement on behalf of the Iranian side. 'Our involvement in the aftermath of the Beirut explosion and the earthquake in Sisakht (Iran) was record-breaking in terms of effectiveness. We were on the scene within 24 hours of the explosion in Beirut and in less than an hour after the earthquake in Sisakht, allowing us to provide aid to the affected individuals.'
Hemmati emphasized that the IRCS is among the world's top five humanitarian agencies, engaging more than two million volunteers in its activities.
