Klyuchevskaya Volcano Erupts in Kamchatka
A spectacular display of lava and pink smoke is what the Klyuchevskaya Volcano in Kamchatka has produced following its recent activation, reports the BBC. The volcano had awakened back in February, and now the boiling red layer of lava is moving towards the Erna Glacier, posing a threat to the local population.
Authorities have warned that the eruption could affect river courses and damage roads connecting populated areas. An “orange” level aviation danger has been declared. Ash could be ejected up to 5-7 kilometers high at any moment, which could pose risks to low-flying aircraft.
Klyuchevskaya is one of the highest and most active volcanoes in the Eurasian region, reaching a height of 4750 meters, with the nearest settlement located about 30 kilometers away from the caldera.
