The Information Actively Circulating in the Media is an Obvious Falsehood and Manipulation: General Staff

The information actively circulating in the media, claiming that "Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan wanted to take the army to the streets, but there were no one to obey the order," is not only extremely far from the truth, but also an obvious falsehood and manipulation.

We strongly condemn such behavior and urge media outlets not to exhibit conduct unworthy of high journalism in the style of 'information received by us.' We also advise our citizens not to follow such provocations.

This was stated by Colonel Samvel Asatryan, head of the information department of the administrative apparatus of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

We also inform that, in order to ensure the rule of law, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia has already appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to investigate the materials containing signs of clearly identifiable criminal characteristics in the article published in the newspaper "Zhamanak" titled "They Did Not Obey the Order: What Did Onik Gasparyan Want to Do?" and, if evidence is established, to initiate a criminal case so that those responsible will be held accountable under the law.
