Inmate at Artik Penitentiary Confesses to Multiple Thefts

Thanks to extensive and consistent explanatory work carried out by the divisions of the Republic of Armenia's Ministry of Justice at the Artik penitentiary, a detainee, V.P., arrested for committing thefts from various addresses in the city of Gyumri, has confessed. On March 4, 2021, he admitted that between February 1 and February 27 of this year, he committed 21 instances of secret and open theft of others' property in Yerevan and Gyumri, according to the public relations department of the Armenian Ministry of Justice's penitentiary service.

Specifically, the detainee pointed to specific addresses and confessed that by unlawfully entering a secured building and taking advantage of the sleeping guard's presence, he stole a computer monitor and a bottle of whiskey. During the evening hours, he openly stole women's bags in 9 separate incidents, openly took a bicycle in the presence of the owner, stole metal coins from 6 Tell cell payment terminals, unlawfully entered two flower shops and two fast-food points by breaking windows, from which he stole mobile phones, headphones, and cash. In addition, he attempted to steal a car; however, due to circumstances beyond his control, he was unable to complete the theft but did manage to steal the vehicle's technical passport.

The detainee's application for confession has been sent to the relevant authorities conducting criminal prosecution for further proceedings in accordance with the criminal procedural law.
