Car Crashes into Concrete Barriers of Draft Service, 2 Dead
Today, on March 7, a major and tragic car accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 4:30 AM, Arkadi Ghukasyan, a 33-year-old resident of the Sari Tagh district of Yerevan, was driving his BMW along Ashtarak Highway towards Halabyan Street when, for reasons still unknown, he veered off the road, crashed into concrete protective barriers, broke through them, then collided with a metal barrier, and after flying approximately 30 meters through the air, crashed into the iron grilles of the Recruitment and Enlistment Service's territorial division No. 1 (commonly known as the Mashtots Military Commissariat) located on Halabyan Street, breaking through them and ending up overturned from a height of about 1 meter within the division's area.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamsyan, who reported from the scene, A. Ghukasyan died on the spot, while the female passenger, 23-year-old Azatouhi Gharibyan, a resident of Kotayk Province, was rescued from the vehicle by the emergency situations ministry's rescue team from Yerevan's No. 7 fire-rescue unit. She was transported by ambulance to the Armenia Medical Center, but unfortunately, she passed away on the way without regaining consciousness.
