Adventures of the Armenian Aircraft and Unanswered Questions: 'Hetq'

The adventures of the Armenian aircraft found in Iran continue. This is a multi-layered story involving several stakeholders: the aircraft owner, the operating company 'Fly Armenia Airways', the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee, Iran and its Iranian company that apparently tried to acquire this aircraft, and the United States, whose products are "on the table". And that "table" has seen our southern neighbor under American sanctions, which cannot help but worry and indeed anger the U.S. This is reported by 'Hetq'.

To unravel this tangled web, let us take a step back and present the key events in chronological order.

In July 2020, the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee issued an operating license (OŠV) to the airline 'Fly Armenia Airways' which has registered two American-manufactured aircraft, a 'Boeing 737-400' and a 'Boeing 737-300' in the aircraft registry at the end of last year.

The first of these was transferred from Ukraine to Armenia on November 26 and was registered by the CAA in the registry on December 28 as EK-FAB (the former Ukrainian registration UR-CNP). Manufactured in 1989, this aircraft has previously been operated in numerous countries, including North Korea, Belgium, Australia, Great Britain, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Ukraine, Jordan, and Eritrea. The owner of the aircraft is the UAE registered company 'Eastok Avia (FZC)'. After being brought to Armenia and obtaining Armenian registration a month later, EK-FAB has been parked at 'Zvartnots' airport ever since.
