A 30m High Armenian Flag to Be Raised in Shurnukh

On March 7, a ceremonial raising of the Armenian tricolor will take place in the village of Shurnukh in the Syunik province. The head of the Goris community, Arush Arushanyan, announced on his Facebook page that the flag will be hoisted at a height of 30 meters. "The highest flag in Armenia was first installed in Kapan, and the second will be raised in Shurnukh," wrote Arushanyan.

He emphasizes that the enemy, located merely a few meters away from Shurnukh, must always feel that the Armenian people stand united and supportive of the border communities. "For the sake of restoring our Armenian identity, we will continue to create and fight for our land, culture, values, and faith," the community leader stated.

According to him, events will kick off at 2:00 PM on the occasion of the flag raising. All settlements in the consolidated Goris community will present traditional dishes, and there will be interesting cultural initiatives throughout the day in Shurnukh.

It is noteworthy that as a result of the war, certain areas of Artsakh have come under Azerbaijani control. This triggered a process of clarifying the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has led to significant dissatisfaction among residents of the border communities in Syunik. Protests began there, with citizens blocking roads, demanding solutions to the border issues and the problems of illegal demarcation that deprive them of their rights, homes, and security.

Particularly, tensions have escalated around the Kapan-Goris road segment, as well as in several villages including Jakhateni, David Bek, Vorotan, and Shurnukh, with 12 houses in Shurnukh having come under enemy control.
