We Are Under Siege: Uncertainty About Returning, Arthur Aghajanyan Has Also Fallen in Artsakh

Arthur Aghajanyan was one of the police officers who fell for his homeland during the Second Artsakh War. He was born in 1982 in Sisian, was married, and had two daughters. Since 2010, he had served in the police forces, maintaining public order for over a decade and also conducting combat duty in Tavush.

When a large-scale war broke out against Artsakh on September 27, police troops immediately gathered in their units in a state of alarm. From September 29 to October 25, Arthur participated in the defensive battles of Karvachar. He returned home for four days on October 25 and was again in Artsakh on October 29. This time, he left Karvachar with fellow soldiers to participate in the defense of the fortress city of Shushi.

On the morning of November 7, he called his wife, Nazeli: “We are under siege. We don’t know if we will return or not. Please take good care of the kids…” Just days later, the devastating news arrived—Arthur and his colleagues had been killed.

The news from Artsakh was doubly heavy for Nazeli. Not only had she lost her husband, but also her brother, Mher Martirosyan, who served in the police forces.

It was Arthur’s dream for his daughter, Mariam, to study at the police academy and continue his work. Mariam has firmly decided that she will become a police officer, fulfilling her father's dream. Arthur’s youngest daughter, Arminé, is also talented in art, and her creations always carry a piece of their father with them...
