‘Today by the end of the day it will become clear who is playing what game with whom’ - Tigran Abrahamyan
If it becomes clear that President Armen Sarkissian is in a backstage agreement with Nikol Pashinyan, he will automatically carry full responsibility for all of Pashinyan's actions that have brought us to such a tragic point. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, head of the ‘Henaket’ Analytical Center, in an interview with Tert.am, referring to President Sarkissian's decision not to sign the draft decree on dismissing Chief of General Staff Onik Gasparyan and the Constitutional Court's inquiry about the constitutionality of the ‘Military Service and Status of Military Personnel’ project.
“Lawyers suggest that in order not to appear in that role, Armen Sarkissian has the opportunity to take action. Today by the end of the day, it will become clear who is playing what game with whom. Armen Sarkissian must realize that he will be held responsible not only for the political crisis in Armenia, but also for all of Pashinyan's failures that have occurred in the pre-war, wartime, and post-war periods,” Abrahamyan said.
He emphasized that the General Staff of the Armed Forces, along with around 50 representatives of the highest command and retired generals, have taken an extraordinary step by speaking about the critical situation of the country during this significant phase. “Their expression of position already speaks to the level of vulnerability of the country's security and the government's inaction towards resolving that issue. The General Staff has taken its main step, and now the ball is in the court of the political actors in the domestic arena. Parties, political and civic groups, and political and military figures aware of the serious situation and I won’t shy away from saying the loss of statehood should not yield to the rules of play put forth by the government and should act at various stages of events with non-standard tools,” he said.
According to Abrahamyan, Nikol Pashinyan has already shown that nothing is above power and its benefits for him, and it is impossible to instill in him that we are dealing with the loss of a state. “Therefore, standard political steps and pressures do not create problems for the government. Public rallies are components of the process, but it will not be possible to achieve the removal of the government solely through such events. Work with various governmental wings and state structures must be strengthened. Pressures must be intensified to ensure that the mechanisms in the hands of the government do not function and thus compel the government to halt,” said Tigran Abrahamyan.
