Nikol's Success in 2018 Came from Lack of Restraints, Minasian
The goal of the opposition’s struggle is to preserve the fragments of statehood. In contrast, Nikol's aim is to maintain his own power. This is where the difference in approaches becomes evident: for Nikol, it is important to demolish everything, while the opposition seeks to save as much as possible from the ruin.
This opinion is expressed by former Armenian ambassador to the Holy See, Mikael Minasian, on his Telegram channel.
“The misfortune is that by saving state institutions from destruction, we are not preventing decay but merely slowing it down. To realize this, we just need to compare what we had on November 10 and what we have now. We all need to acknowledge that Nikol succeeded in 2018 because he faced no restraints. Nothing was limiting him. The losses did not concern him. He moved forward without regard for any barriers. Furthermore, during the entire period following November 9, Nikol was at his weakest on the 10th, 11th, and 12th, when he sensed with his spine that any moment he could hang from a lamp post.
People at the protest must remember this. Or rather, they should not forget,” he wrote.
