Ruling Party MPs Attempt to Claim Prisoner of War Bill as Their Own: "Hraparak"

The Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations gave a positive conclusion yesterday during a closed session to a draft statement circulated by former MPs from the ‘My Step’ faction, Taguhi Tovmasyan, Anna Grigoryan, and Vardan Atabekyan, which condemns Azerbaijan's political maneuvers that obstruct the return of military personnel and civilians held captive.

The authors argue that by keeping the captives, Azerbaijan is politicizing the humanitarian process, delaying their return, and violating its international obligations, thus deserving of strict condemnation from the international community and human rights organizations.

Interestingly, according to our sources, ruling party MPs attempted to claim this initiative as their own, but the authors did not agree. Moreover, they could not oppose it as they do with other opposition initiatives, considering that society would not understand.

It’s a fact that over 80 representatives of ‘My Step’ are currently focused on fighting against the opposition rather than dealing with post-war issues.

This report is published by the newspaper “Hraparak.”
