Representatives of the Homeland Salvation Movement Demand Urgent Meeting with the President of Armenia

The Homeland Salvation Movement has issued a statement expressing serious concern regarding Armenian President Armen Sarkissian's position on the dismissal of Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan from his post, announced today.

“In the content of the statement, the head of state bypasses the issue of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's decision to challenge this decision in the Constitutional Court. In light of this, representatives of the Homeland Salvation Movement are demanding an urgent meeting with the President of Armenia,” the statement reads.

It should be noted that the President's press service announced today that Armen Sarkissian has decided not to sign the draft decree of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to dismiss Onik Gasparyan from his position as Chief of the General Staff. Meanwhile, in line with point 4 of part 1 of Article 169 of the Constitution, the President will separately apply to the Constitutional Court with a request to determine the compliance of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on “Military Service and the Status of Servicemen” dated November 15, 2017, with the Constitution.
