It Is Known When the President of Armenia Will Meet with Opposition Leaders
The meeting between the President of the Republic of Armenia and opposition leaders will take place tomorrow at 11:00 AM. This information was reported by hraparak.am, referring to its own sources.
It was previously revealed that the opposition wishes to discuss the issue of the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Onik Gasparyan, with the President. Members of the Homeland Salvation Movement had approached Armen Sarkissian for the meeting and received a positive response.
Recall that the domestic political situation in Armenia escalated after the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on February 25, stating that the political leadership was leading the country towards a dangerous threshold. This occurred after the Prime Minister removed the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Tigran Khachatryan, from office.
In response, Nikol Pashinyan declared an attempt at a military coup and urged citizens to gather at Republic Square to "defend the revolution." He also announced that he had signed the document for the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff, Onik Gasparyan, which, however, was not signed by President Armen Sarkissian and was returned on February 27. On the same day, the Prime Minister sent the proposal to the President again.
The General Staff issued a new statement on March 1, reiterating its assessment of the created situation and emphasizing that, regardless of attempts to involve the independent Armed Forces in political processes, it remains unwavering, measured, and determined.
