The Person Who Assaulted MP Hakob Aslanyan Has Been Identified and Arrested
A citizen who physically assaulted a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has been located and arrested. This information was reported by the Police of Armenia.
On February 26, the ‘My Step’ bloc issued a statement condemning the attack on MP Hakob Aslanyan. The statement mentioned that at 1:30 PM on February 26, the police station in Arabkir received a report from the MP indicating that an unknown person had shouted sexual slurs at the members of their faction near the checkpoint of the National Assembly building on Baghramyan Avenue. When the MP attempted to admonish the citizen, he was struck in the face, causing physical pain.
On February 27, at 8:45 AM, a 47-year-old man with a prior conviction for particularly serious crimes was found in the 8th district of Nor Nork and taken into police custody. A criminal case has been initiated.
It is worth noting that the ‘My Step’ statement also mentioned that a group of members from the ‘Homeland Salvation Movement’ had attacked 67-year-old MP Hakob Aslanyan, who participated in the three Artsakh wars and has not yet fully recovered from the wounds of the last war, on the morning of February 26.
