Protests in Kapan Demand Resignation of Nikol Pashinyan

Lilit T.

Nikol Pashinyan, the residents of Kapan demand your resignation, stop this severe situation and allow us to stabilize the country. This was stated by Kapan’s Mayor Gevorg Paryan during a protest calling for Pashinyan’s resignation today in Kapan.

“The post-war situation that has arisen in the Kapan community makes us increasingly resolute; we understand that the resignation of Nikol and his team is an absolute necessity. Mr. Pashinyan, you say that everyone is your brother, we ask you, we demand you, stop the downfall of our state; you can do this with your resignation,” said Gevorg Paryan.

Paryan referred to the situation as it was by December when they demanded to retreat and compromise on crucial border lines, while Chief of Staff Onik Gasparyan was unaware of those decisions and, supporting them, insisted that they must fight, struggle, and never concede these critical border lines.

“Since November 9, there has been a concern that we might concede some borders in December. I asked to meet with Onik Gasparyan; on November 23-24, we met with General Valery Kocharyan and Gasparyan along with almost all the generals of the Armed Forces who demanded the Premier's resignation. Mr. Gasparyan emphasized the importance of these border lines and stated that there should be no discussions regarding this security zone; if this area is discussed, there will be a battle for those border lines, and that enclave will not be conceded under any circumstances,” Paryan noted.

According to him, Onik Gasparyan urged that the Armed Forces should strengthen their positions in those areas. “Onik Gasparyan said we are reinforcing, and we started to fortify; we took advantageous heights, but on the 15th, a Russian peacekeeper visited us and asked when we were going to concede that border, and I was left stunned, being told: 'What do you mean, are you not aware?'” he said.

Paryan added that the residents of Kapan were forced to block the road, but such a culture must end with Nikol Pashinyan. He emphasized that it is regrettable that to make a citizen's voice heard, one must block the road, and it is doubly regrettable that during this period, the method of road blocking worked. “In this country, under these authorities, if you want to be heard, you have to block the road.”

According to the Mayor, Nikol Pashinyan is trying to dismiss a person who has been patriotically trying to prevent the surrender of territories, while keeping in his team a minister who hands over crucial areas with a stroke of a pen.

“The Chief of Staff was unaware of what was happening. They want to remove a person devoted to his work, while a minister, who is not generally concerned with our border security, signs a memorandum with one stroke of the pen stating that by December 18, we should withdraw our troops from the Zangelan and Kubatlu regions,” Paryan said.

To summarize, Gevorg Paryan stated that the political and social crisis has only one solution, and if that solution is not found, the country will face complete destruction. “There is a deep crisis in our country, political chaos, and the system simply does not work, and it is leading us day by day to ruin. Our country needs stability and stability which will lead to the functioning of the system, and the system will only work with Nikol's resignation and new elections,” he concluded.
