I Am Innocent: Gérard Depardieu Comments on Rape Charges Against Him
French actor Gérard Depardieu has spoken out about the rape charges brought against him. La Repubblica reports that the 72-year-old artist stated, "I am innocent, and that's why I have nothing to fear." He emphasized that his alleged victim has no evidence against him.
Depardieu declined to comment on the young actress who has accused him, but he made it clear that he will appear in court on March 10 to demonstrate that there is no evidence against him.
“It seems we live with headphones on—with all the streaming channels, new means of communication, websites, and social networks that constantly transmit negative, often false, and non-objective news. I hate all of this,” Depardieu declared.
It is worth noting that the actor has expressed confidence that the judge will not believe he could be a rapist. On February 23, it was revealed that Depardieu faced charges for rape and sexual assault. The accusations were first made by a 22-year-old actress in the summer of 2018.
The criminal case was closed; however, the alleged victim filed a new complaint. The actress's name is not disclosed, but a source close to the investigation claims that the girl and Depardieu were quite familiar, as he helped her start her career in films.
