‘Aliyev Rushes to Help His Partner in Difficult Times’: Serge Sarkisian’s Office Reacts to Aliyev’s Statements

The Office of the Third President of Armenia has responded to statements made by Ilham Aliyev during a press conference. Below is the response presented.

“Today, during a press conference organized for local and international media representatives, Azerbaijani President Aliyev made such absurd and unserious 'revelations' that addressing them one by one is utterly pointless and a waste of time.

However, it should be noted that he is no less shameless and irresponsible in lying than his current partner in Armenia. It is quite clear why he is doing this now—he is rushing to help his partner in a difficult time. Perhaps both of them are burdened by a sense of inferiority derived from past defeats.

No knowledge or experience in military matters, like his Armenian counterpart, he finds himself in a ridiculous situation with contradictory statements and lies. Not long ago, he claimed that Karvachar and Lachin would not be handed over during Serge Sarkisian’s term, yet today, he says that Serge Sarkisian asked him two weeks in 2016 to withdraw the troops from the occupied territories. This could only happen in Aliyev's dreams.

Has anyone wondered why Aliyev has not publicly mentioned such a 'request' before on various occasions or boasted about it before his own audience? He definitely wouldn’t resist such temptation under any circumstances. And why is there no mention of this in the 2016 negotiation documents from St. Petersburg?

Or perhaps Aliyev was not the one who, in 2016 during his cabinet meeting, whimsically declared, 'Behind closed doors, we are forced to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan will never agree to take such a step?' Irresponsibility and lying have never been beneficial to anyone in politics, war, or any other situation in the long term; rather, they cause innumerable damages.”
