VIDEO: Another Drug Trafficking Chain Discovered, One Person Arrested
As a result of cooperation between various police departments, another case of illegal drug trafficking has been uncovered, with the first links of the chain under the law enforcement's radar since 2019.
In December 2019, detectives from the Central Division of the police detained two men, aged 27 and 28, on suspicion of drug possession and use, while driving a "Toyota Corolla" in the Hrazdan gorge. During a personal search of one of the men, two syringes were found with burnt traces, while a crystalline substance was discovered during a search of the other man's vehicle.
Further investigations revealed that the crystalline substance was methamphetamine, which one of the detainees had sold to the other. It was later revealed that the seller had purchased the drugs from a 36-year-old resident of 36 Isosyfyan Street in Yerevan.
After verifying the information received, on February 6, 2021, the suspect was apprehended by the Central Division of the police. During a personal search, a Lyrica pill and methamphetamine were found in his possession. During the investigation, it was discovered that the individual who sold drugs to the 36-year-old was a resident of Agarak city. His identity still needed to be clarified.
The detainees were arrested. On February 11, during a search of the 44-year-old man's home, an additional 50 grams of methamphetamine was found. According to preliminary data obtained during the investigation, the drugs had been sold to him by a foreign national.
Furthermore, according to received information, the foreigner was reportedly planning to bring in a particularly large quantity of around 500 grams of methamphetamine near the Armenian-Iranian border for trafficking purposes.
On February 11, extensive operational-investigative measures were undertaken with the cooperation of several police departments, resulting in the discovery of 75 grams of powder-like and 380 grams of white crystalline substances resembling methamphetamine near a single-story building close to the Meghri customs post.
The investigative division of the Central and Norq-Marashe administrative districts has submitted a petition to the court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan for the application of detention as a preventive measure against the 44-year-old resident of Agarak, which has been granted. Circumstances are being clarified, and the preliminary investigation of the criminal case continues.
