Arayik Harutyunyan Fears: Haykakan Zhoghovurd
Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan has rejected a proposal from three opposition parties in Artsakh to hold a rally on February 20 to commemorate the significance of that day 33 years ago. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation, ‘Justice,’ and Ashot Gulian's National Unity Party suggested during a Security Council meeting that a gathering be organized as a sign of unity, with speakers from the early days of the movement addressing the audience.
However, Arayik Harutyunyan did not respond favorably, fearing that it would turn into an action against him and the government. Last week, he also decided that there will be no local self-government elections until the end of March 2022.
Political circles in Artsakh believe that the sole reason for this decision is Harutyunyan's desire to reject the call for snap elections by arguing that if it were possible to hold elections, he would have organized local self-government elections.
This was reported by the newspaper ‘Haykakan Zhoghovurd’.
