There will be a second awakening in Armenia, we will rise again, and we will move Armenia and Artsakh forward. The values of 1988, the progress, and the current incompetent, anti-national government, in agreement with their educated and constructive friends, have led our country to decline. This was stated today, on February 20, during a rally in Freedom Square by former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan.

“The values we had gained over these 30 years were sufficient for us to shape our history and move forward. Our army has been improving day by day, and it is unfair to lay the blame for this defeat on the army. It is not morally right, because during this war, the army was left to fight alone against the enemy. The army remained without support. We are convinced that the soldiers and commanders fought bravely, giving their lives for the dignity of the Armenian people. Only the army’s support was very fragile before and during the war. Because these authorities have built their strategy towards the army not from a high strategic viewpoint, but have lowered it to even the lowest tactical level of a foot soldier,” he said.

Seyran Ohanyan noted that the authorities, in dividing society into old and new, have also split the army into old and new. “I would like to inform you that during the time of changing Chief of General Staff Movses Hakobyan, when he refused, illegal steps were taken against the Armed Forces’ General Staff and the Chief of General Staff. How to understand when the leader of these authorities invites and tells the Chief of General Staff – I want to get rid of all the old ones? What does it mean to be old in the army? It means a person of age with appropriate knowledge and skills. It means a high-ranking individual who has progressed through the ranks and better understands the current military theater, has a broader worldview. Old means high rank, for which you have shed blood and sweat four times, and you tell him – be free, because you are old. Old means a person who is experienced and possesses combat capabilities, a person who has passed through Afghanistan, the first war, and the April war and has been freed from office. The result we see is deficiencies in governance, an open support structure, and we cannot unite the people.

How can you use administrative resources to take people to Yerablur, hug the relative of a fallen parent, yet do the same thing you didn’t do during the years of war, not go, not hug the commander of the Armenians, the Armenian soldier, so that later you won’t hug the relative of the fallen soldier? Today, the Armenian army must remain the only guarantor of security for the Armenian people,” he announced.
