We Expect Georgian Help Regarding the Fate of Armenian Monuments Under Azerbaijani Control

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia, Vahram Dumanyan, received a delegation led by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Armenia, Giorgi Saganelidze. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Artur Martirosyan.

The Ministry announced that during the meeting, Ambassador Saganelidze congratulated Minister Dumanyan on his appointment, noting that the meeting had been postponed for some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was pleased that it was finally taking place. The diplomat expressed confidence that although the minister has assumed office during a challenging period for Armenia, he will be able to overcome the challenges and address the issues at hand due to his experience.

Expressing gratitude for the meeting, Dumanyan noted that the Armenian and Georgian peoples share many commonalities and that their fraternal and friendly relations have a centuries-old history. He pointed out that the past year has been very difficult for Armenia, highlighting that the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent war have caused irreparable human losses.

“The fate of Armenian cultural monuments located in areas under Azerbaijani control is of great importance to us, as they represent not only Armenian heritage but also significant universal value,” the minister stated, adding that in this regard, the Armenian side relies on potential support from both the international community and Georgian partners.

Expressing confidence that Armenia will overcome the consequences of the war in a short time, the ambassador quoted the famous Georgian poet and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze, saying that only a strong Armenia can ensure a stable southern border for Georgia.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of bilateral as well as multilateral cooperation within the framework of joint international programs. Minister Dumanyan highlighted the need to promote interactions between Armenian and Georgian youth to ensure long-term cooperation among specialists in the future. Agreeing with the minister, Saganelidze stated that there is also great potential for cooperation in the field of education and science.

At the end of the meeting, both sides acknowledged the necessity to activate and develop inter-university communications and joint student exchange programs.
