Turkey Should Strike US-Sent Trucks to Syrian Kurds, Turkish General

The former head of the Intelligence Department of the Turkish Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ismail Hakki Pekin, has stated that Turkey should target the trucks sent by the United States to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD). This was reported by Ermenihaber.

“Israel conducts attacks on Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. By elevating planes, it strikes Iranian targets, transportation vehicles, and warehouses,” he said and added that Turkey could do the same.

Pekin claimed that Turkey could target the Syrian Kurds because it is fighting against terrorism. Furthermore, he noted that “the whole world knows that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG, the military wing of PYD) are carrying out attacks against Turkey.”

“Wherever the threat comes from, Israel strikes. We (Turkey) can also strike their (PYD/YPG) trucks,” the general stated. By referencing the example of Israel, Pekin attempted to legitimize Turkey’s potential new actions in Syria.

It is well known that Turkish authorities identify the PYD/YPG with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.

It should be noted that the “aid” provided by the US to the PYD is one of the issues in Turkish-American relations.
