Distribute Weapons to Everyone: Restrictions Lifted
Residents of border communities will soon have the opportunity to carry weapons. Changes are planned for Article 13 of the "Law on Weapons," allowing residents to possess hunting rifled guns, which are minimally different from combat weapons.
The current law stipulates that citizens must first carry smoothbore weapons, such as hunting rifles, for five years before being permitted to carry rifled weapons. This restriction will now be lifted, after which the Ministry of Defense will provide weapons to residents.
The co-authors of the change are Hayastan Alliance MP Armen Khachatryan and former BHK member Sergey Bagratyan. The aim of this change is to enhance the sense of security among border residents, encouraging them to stay in their homes and prevent diversionary infiltrations.
Since November 9, the number of border communities has increased by 39, and the law will apply to more than seventy communities. Weapons will be distributed to residents without mental health issues, specifically those living in border areas, rather than those merely registered there.
Bagratyan did not deny that a draft amendment to the "Law on Weapons" is being developed, but stated that he will discuss details once it is introduced.
