Armenia is a Market Economy, and Everyone Can Engage in Business Activities, Says Sukiasyan's Spokesperson on Rumors
Recently, information circulated in the press regarding Khachatur Sukiasyan's purchase of RAN oil, alleging that he is establishing a monopoly in the gasoline market through 'terror.' It was reported that Khachatur Sukiasyan has acquired RAN oil, a company engaged in the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel, rapidly establishing a monopoly in the sector.
According to the publication, at Sukiasyan's request, the State Revenue Committee (SRC) and the National Security Service (NSS) are allegedly subjecting other fuel selling companies to 'terror' through inspections and fines. Furthermore, Sukiasyan is reportedly offering larger sums to the owners of gas station sites of competing companies to drive competitors out of the market and to establish his own gas stations in busy city areas.
In response to a query from Auroranews, Sukiasyan's office stated that the SIL concern has acquired RAN oil. 'For those who are unaware, let it be reminded that Armenia is a market economy, and everyone can engage in business activities. I would like to reiterate that the SIL concern is engaged in business activities in Armenia and has the right under the Armenian legislation to acquire, establish, and engage in various business activities, including the import, sale, and distribution of fuel.
Regarding the establishment of a monopoly, it should be specifically noted that a monopoly is not being created in the market; rather, competition is being fostered, which the citizens of Armenia can benefit from through better quality fuel and more affordable prices. Economic development results from competition, unlike the monopolies created and entrenched in previous years. It is understandable that the emerging competition in this market may upset the monopolies that have reaped super-profits for years. I see no need to address the rumors containing political manipulations, as our society has long known the reality and the lies. I kindly ask those seriously concerned to contact the former owners of RAN oil for information about the transaction,' stated Sukiasyan's spokesperson Anna Mkrtchyan in our conversation.
