Significant Growth in Export and Import Volumes, Says Nikol Pashinyan
During today's government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the country’s economy is showing the first signs of post-crisis recovery. “According to the data for the first 15 days of February, there were more than 604,000 transactions recorded with cash register receipts and accounting documents in Armenia compared to the first 15 days of last February,” the Prime Minister stated.
He noted that the cash turnover has increased by 12 percent or approximately 31.4 billion drams compared to the same period last year. According to Pashinyan, there has also been significant growth in export and import volumes. “It seems that the economy is entering a recovery phase,” Pashinyan said.
Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, Edward Hovhannisyan, also mentioned that the increase of 31.4 billion drams pertains to three sectors: consumption volumes have increased, namely retail consumption, production, and the provision of services, while the additional 604,000 transactions equally relate to the mentioned sectors. “Both wholesale and retail sectors have grown,” the SRC chairman noted. Prime Minister Pashinyan responded that one of the major issues was the significant decline in consumption volumes, and this gives hope that consumption volumes will recover.
