The First Public QR Library Opens in Armenia

In anticipation of Book Donation Day, a public QR library was opened on February 17 at the Gyumri branch of the Armenian State University of Economics. This library is accessible not only to the students of the branch but also to anyone interested in economics and related fields without any restrictions.

Unlike traditional libraries, there is no need for registration or to present an ID; one simply needs to enter the hall, select a book, and scan the corresponding QR code posted on the wall. The hall offers free internet access, tablets, and a comfortable environment for reading.

This library is unique in its kind, where QR codes and the latest technological advancements replace old books, providing contemporary literature. The initiative also aims to connect young people with modern literature through new technologies and create an environment that fosters reading.

The establishment of the library is expected to activate the lives of local residents, providing them with enjoyable leisure activities and self-education, especially since the neighborhood is peripheral, and central or regional libraries are located downtown.

During the opening event, acting director of the Gyumri branch of the Armenian State University of Economics, Karen Petrosyan, stated that there are currently 8 sections in the library, each with about 100 specialized books. However, there are plans to continuously increase the quantity and scope of literature, including contemporary fiction.

The rector of the university, Diana Galoyan, welcomed the initiative of the branch and expressed hope that students will start reading more, and that the knowledge gained will contribute to the development of the economy in the region and the republic.
