Russia Responds to ECHR's Demand to Release Navalny
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has demanded the release of Alexei Navalny, the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), in what appears to be an attempt to exert pressure on Russia to further its own interests. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, commented on this matter, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“Very often, Western partners – and I reiterate – behind this entire campaign stands, undoubtedly, the collective West. They do not think about the consequences of their actions in pursuit of their interests, including for their own countries,” Zakharova stated, emphasizing that the Russian state would not overlook attempts to exert pressure on it. She added that the ECHR's demand “violates the foundations of international law,” as it was made without references to legal norms.
