Armenian Citizens Unable to Travel to Georgia Due to Lack of COVID-19 Vaccine

On February 7, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced both good and bad news for Armenian citizens. Firstly, the air route to Georgia will be opened; however, entry will only be possible after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine (two doses). It was also noted that Georgian citizens can enter Armenia only with a special exit permit issued by the Georgian authorities.

However, it has now become clear that, in practice, the border with Georgia is closed to Armenian citizens, as it is impossible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 even with the greatest desire, since Armenia has not yet acquired any vaccines. This was stated in response to an inquiry from “Factinfo” by the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, it was mentioned that no applications have been submitted for vaccine registration at this time.

The ministry also informed that active negotiations are ongoing with both the COVAX FACILITY initiative and all possible vaccine manufacturers and international partners. It remains unclear when the vaccine will be obtained.

On February 15, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan signed an order confirming the risk groups for COVID-19 vaccinations. COVID-19 vaccinations will be carried out in two phases.
