Trilateral Russian-Turkish-Iranian Meeting on Syria Underway in Sochi
A meeting of the guarantor countries of the "Astana process"—Russia, Iran, and Turkey—has started in Sochi. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.
The international consultations will last for two days. In addition to the delegations from the guarantor countries, representatives from international organizations, including the UN, as well as delegations from the Syrian government and the opposition, will participate in the talks.
According to Alexander Lavrentyev, the Russian President's special envoy for Syria, the agenda will include issues related to political settlement, combating terrorism, repatriation of refugees, searches for missing persons, and the economic situation in Syria.
Since 2017, negotiations for resolving the situation in Syria under the "Astana format" have been ongoing.
