Hayk Marutyan Visits Schools and Kindergartens with Issues Post-Earthquake

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, accompanied by specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations' Seismic Protection Service, visited community schools and kindergartens where certain issues have been observed following the earthquake.

The tour also saw the participation of Deputy Mayor Gayane Melkom Melkomyan and heads of administrative districts. Zaven Khlygahyan, head of the Seismic Stability Directorate of the Seismic Protection Service, assured that the load-bearing walls of the schools and kindergartens are safe: “The effects of the earthquake have only been felt in the form of cracks in the plaster; in some areas, the plaster has fallen off, but it has not impacted the load-bearing structures. We have advised to clean the plaster, which will make them definitely safe for operation afterwards.”

Mayor Hayk Marutyan emphasized that the issue requires a systematic solution. The municipality has already started works; 12 kindergartens have undergone major renovations, and six more will be renovated this year. Additionally, under the energy efficiency program, 15 kindergartens will be renovated, with work already begun in two of them.

On Monday, all schools and kindergartens will welcome children according to the established schedule.
