Current Population of Armenia: 'Joghovurd'
The number of permanent residents in Armenia has increased. According to 'Joghovurd' newspaper, as of January 1st this year, the permanent population of our republic stood at 2 million 964 thousand 100, whereas on January 1st of the previous year, it was 2 million 959 thousand 700.
This indicates that the population grew by 4,400 over the year. However, specialists have their explanation for this. The fact is that our citizens who left for labor abroad and returned in 2019 were unable to leave the country in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is why, according to official data, the population is reported to have increased.
Nevertheless, compared to January 1, 2019, the population has actually decreased by 1,200 in the same period this year. Furthermore, as of January 1st this year, there were more women than men: out of 2 million 964 thousand 100, 1 million 565 thousand 600 were women, while 1 million 398 thousand 500 were men.
In addition to the increase in the permanent population, the number of births has also risen. In 2018, the number of births was 36,574, in 2019 it was 36,041, and in 2020 it was 36,448, meaning the number of births has increased by 407.
Another significant statistic is that the number of deaths increased by 9,185 over the year.
