Uncertainty Surrounds the Statue of Nzhdeh Installed in Martuni
In the last two days, discussions have begun on social networks and among the public regarding the dismantling of the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh located in the city of Martuni. The statue is situated on one of Martuni's main streets, and no official opening ceremony has taken place yet.
There are rumors that Azerbaijanis, via Russian peacekeepers, have demanded its dismantling, and the Russians have suggested complying with the request to avoid escalating the situation. This was reported by Aparaj.am.
Aparaj has contacted residents of the city of Martuni and responsible individuals in local self-government bodies. The responsible parties provided evasive answers to their inquiries. However, as a result of their queries, it was revealed that a senior Russian peacekeeping military official had requested the mayor to dismantle the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh.
Mayor Edik Avanesyan refused, stating, 'Tomorrow they may also demand the dismantling of Monteh's statue.'
According to the website, discussions on this issue are still ongoing, and so far, no responsible body has provided an official comment.
