Russian Air Defense Systems Repel Attack on Syria's Khmeimim Airbase
Russian air defense systems have successfully repelled an attack on Syria's Khmeimim airbase. None of the fired projectiles reached the airbase territory, as reported by the Zvezda television station.
The strikes originated from the de-escalation zone in Idlib, which is under the control of militants. A new joint Russian-Turkish patrol is soon to be deployed to the city of Serekib, located in that area.
Earlier, it was reported that the armed forces of Russia and Turkey conducted joint exercises in Idlib, during which they practiced their response to militant attacks and the evacuation procedures for the wounded.
Idlib remains the only area in Syria where ceasefire violations have continued to happen regularly.
In October 2019, the presidents of Russia and Turkey signed a memorandum on undertaking joint actions to regulate the situation in northeast Syria.
