Over 2,000 Hectares of Land in Askeran to Be Irrigated
The President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, convened an extended working consultation on February 11 dedicated to discussing irrigation projects. The country's leader noted that alongside social programs aimed at overcoming the post-war situation, it is necessary to vigorously initiate several economic projects.
“In order to swiftly overcome the crisis situation, the government is making adequate efforts towards the restoration of infrastructure and the implementation of social programs. However, it is also time to undertake steps in parallel for the development of the economy. In this context, agriculture will continue to remain a priority in our economic policy, and large-scale projects for the irrigation of land will be launched in the coming months,” said the President of Artsakh.
During the consultation, the President was presented with a project for the construction of the main junction of the Karkar River. According to the plan, as a result of the project's operation, more than 2,000 hectares of land in the upper and inner subregions of the Askeran region will be irrigated by both gravity and mechanical methods. After hearing the opinions of specialists and project leaders, the President of the Republic approved the project and instructed that initial work begin within a reasonable timeframe.
The consultation also addressed issues related to irrigation projects planned in other parts of the Republic. In particular, the importance of starting works on the construction of the Khlis reservoir, as well as the irrigation projects for the low-lying lands of the Berdashen subregion in Martuni and the Martakert region, within tight deadlines was emphasized.
