Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopirkin Talks About Robert Kocharian's Return

The extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Russia in Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin, discussed a range of urgent issues with the former leaders of Armenia and the situation in Artsakh following the war. He shared this information during a conversation with journalists.

“We talked about the tragic events that took place at the end of 2020, the work that Russia and the peacekeeping force are doing, the International Humanitarian Response Center in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the support being provided to Armenia in various fields,” said Kopirkin.

He noted that he was interested in hearing the assessments of the former leaders regarding the internal political situation in the country. Kopirkin emphasized the importance of the close, allied relations that exist between the two countries.

According to the ambassador, these relations are indeed an essential factor for security and development for both countries amidst the complex circumstances prevailing in the region and around the world.

Regarding the ruling team's decision to abandon the idea of holding snap parliamentary elections, Kopirkin stated that this is a decision for the leadership of Armenia and political forces to make. He added that Russia acknowledges that this is Armenia's internal affair.

“I believe that a correct decision will be made, including based on the complex situation the country is in, as well as the urgent necessity to address the important issues that Armenia faces today, and in which Russia is trying to actively assist,” said Kopirkin.

In response to a question about the return of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharian, to big politics, Kopirkin emphasized that the evaluation of this should be made by the Armenian people.

It is noteworthy that on January 25, former Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan hosted the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation in Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin, at his home. Then, on February 4, a meeting was held at the initiative of the Russian side between the head of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), third President Serzh Sargsyan, and the ambassador.
