Tigran Abrahamyan's Remarks on Reducing Mandatory Military Service Terms in Artsakh
Since yesterday, official circles in Artsakh have initiated discussions on the reduction of mandatory military service terms. This was reported by Tigran Abrahamyan, former advisor to the President of Artsakh, on his Facebook page:
“Discussions regarding the armed forces should be based on reasonable factual grounds. Everyone picks one detail, highlights it, and labels it as a reform. One more thing: since yesterday, official circles in Artsakh have started discussing the reduction of mandatory military service terms. This concerns the draft in Artsakh. I don't believe this appealing option is debatable for Armenia or Artsakh. We do not have a safe environment or the human resources that would allow us to shorten service terms—either in terms of time or altogether—even if we increase the number of contracted soldiers.
The armed forces need transformation, but this should come as a result of in-depth professional and expert studies and discussions.”
