COVID-19 Is Retreating: WHO
The World Health Organization has announced the retreat of the coronavirus pandemic, while emphasizing the need to continue preventive measures. This was stated by the organization’s expert Maria van Kerkhove during a press briefing, as reported on the organization’s Twitter page.
The efforts of various countries aimed at combating the spread of the pandemic have played a significant role in this progress, during which the public has been educated, healthcare workers have been trained, and vaccination campaigns have been undertaken.
“We are indeed seeing a decrease in the number of daily reported cases, and this is really good news. This is due to a range of factors, and primarily the measures that countries are using to break the transmission chains of the virus and prevent infections among others,” said the expert.
In countries where the number of cases is decreasing, Kerkhove urged to continue maintaining the preventive measures against the pandemic and emphasized that people should also continue practicing social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands, and regularly ventilating indoor spaces.
Earlier this week, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that the decline in case numbers worldwide indicates that the virus can be controlled. “This shows that we can prevent infections and save lives if we continue to follow proven public health measures,” he stated.
According to WHO, the total number of reported coronavirus cases worldwide has exceeded 104.3 million, with 2.2 million fatalities. The recent decline in daily reported cases began in the first half of January.
