Argument with Uncle Leads to Gunfire: Investigation Concludes
The investigation by the Malatia-Sebastia division of the Yerevan Investigative Committee has revealed details surrounding a large-scale theft, attempted murder of two or more individuals using illegally acquired firearms, as well as the acquisition and possession of significant amounts of narcotics.
According to the investigation, a 27-year-old resident of Yerevan conspired with a 33-year-old compatriot to secretly steal property. On January 4, 2019, around 5:00 AM, they opened the entrance door of a garage located in the vicinity of Vardanants 2nd Lane using technical means and secretly stole various types of alcoholic beverages worth a total of 1,116,200 AMD, which they placed in their vehicles and left the scene.
Additionally, on the night of October 1-2, 2019, the 27-year-old man had an argument regarding personal matters with his uncle, who also resided in the same house on Malatia street in Yerevan. Intending to unlawfully kill his uncle, he fired multiple shots at him from a firearm he was illegally possessing, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he failed to complete the act and fled the scene.
The 27-year-old man, being on the wanted list for these crimes, attempted to evade apprehension by driving his “Hyundai” vehicle into a police officer’s service vehicle on February 26, 2020, in the yard of a building on Shinarar street in Yerevan. He also intentionally hit and damaged parked cars before fleeing.
Later, on February 28, 2020, around 5:00 PM, while located in a hotel room on A. Mikoyan street in Yerevan, the 27-year-old noticed police officers entering and surrounding the hotel premises. He fired at them with a firearm he was unlawfully possessing, damaging a police vehicle in the process. Following instructions from the police, he threw his illegally possessed “AK-74” assault rifle out of the room’s window and was apprehended by the police. A personal search revealed he had a significant quantity of methamphetamine weighing 0.11 grams.
Based on the collected evidence, the 27-year-old has been charged under several articles of the RA Criminal Code, including Article 177, Part 2, Points 1, 2, and 3; Article 34-104, Part 1; Article 235, Part 1; Article 34-104, Part 2, Points 1 and 2; Article 235, Part 1; Article 185, Part 1; and Article 268, Part 1. The 33-year-old man involved has also been charged under similar provisions of Article 177.
Pre-trial detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint for the 27-year-old, while a signature not to leave has been applied for the 33-year-old. The investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
