Khoznavar: The Old and New Problems of the Most Remote and Border Village of Goris
Arman Haribyan, co-founder of the NGO "Power of Law," wrote on his Facebook page: "Khoznavar is the most remote and border village of Goris. It is a distant, abandoned village. The distance would not be an issue if the village had a proper road. Just days ago, one of the houses caught fire, and the firefighters could not reach the site in time due to the poor road conditions; the house was completely burned down.
Another significant problem for the village is the absence of a kindergarten. Among the new issues is the Azerbaijani border and the adversary's border guard troops. Although they have never bothered the villagers, many residents are concerned.
One young mother says that in the past, she would send her child to the store, but now she goes herself because she fears leaving her child alone.
Overall, the people of Khoznavar feel ignored and alone. They say the problems are not new, but no authority has shown sufficient care for them. Moreover, the issue of Khoznavar becoming a border village is rarely discussed.
Due to the new borders, the villagers have lost the pastures they used to access. The primary income for the villagers mainly comes from livestock farming, and the reduction of pastures could lead to a decrease in the number of livestock, significantly lowering the income of many villagers.
Note: When visiting the villages of Goris, especially in the Kapani region, the brightest observation I made was the optimism and faith of the people in the future. Everyone unanimously insists that the most important thing is lasting peace. I will write more about this later.
