Armenian Government Interested in Activating and Enhancing Cooperation with Sweden

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the new Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia, Patrick Svensson, the Government's press service reports.

Pashinyan congratulated the ambassador on assuming his diplomatic mission in the country and expressed hope that under his tenure, a new chapter would open in Armenian-Swedish relations.

He noted that the Armenian government is interested in activating and making bilateral cooperation more effective in all sectors.

Pashinyan emphasized that the continuous implementation of reforms in various directions is a priority for the government, and in this context, Armenia values close cooperation and the exchange of experiences with Sweden.

Ambassador Svensson highlighted his country's readiness and aim to further expand relations with Armenia in various fields and to contribute to the effective implementation of democratic reforms in the country.

According to the ambassador, Sweden also places significant importance on the implementation of the reform agenda in Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership program, including improvements in the business environment, justice, and human rights protection.

Pashinyan and Svensson noted the necessity of developing economic cooperation between the two countries. Pashinyan stated that the Armenian government is interested in the involvement of Swedish businesses in the economic sector of Armenia.

During the meeting, the interlocutors addressed the situation in the region and the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Pashinyan thanked the Swedish government for its balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and noted that prioritizing humanitarian issues, particularly ensuring the return of prisoners, is on Armenia's agenda.

Pashinyan stated that the Armenian side is ready to engage in the negotiation process for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.

At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of international oversight in preserving Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh through various mechanisms.

According to Svensson, Sweden supports the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship in activating the peace process and achieving a comprehensive resolution of the problem.

During the meeting, the sides discussed other mutually interesting issues.
