Turkey Issues Arrest Orders for 292 Military Personnel
In Turkey, the hunt for alleged members or supporters of the Gülen community, considered a terrorist group, continues. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
Within the framework of an investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, arrest orders have been issued for 292 military personnel, including former colleagues who were dismissed, in the Turkish armed forces.
According to the prosecutor's office, these military personnel established contact with the Gülen's 'mysterious imams' (Muslim clerics) using publicly available telephone devices (payphones).
It is noted that units combating terrorism and organized crime have initiated simultaneous operations across 42 provinces in Turkey aimed at identifying and arresting the suspects. As a result of these operations, many military personnel have been arrested, including 1 colonel and 9 captains who are currently on duty.
It is worth reminding that Turkish authorities accuse U.S.-based Fethullah Gülen of orchestrating the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016. According to Turkish authorities, Gülen planned and executed this action through individuals and supporters embedded in the country's security forces, particularly within the armed forces.
Following the coup attempt, thousands of officers and soldiers from the armed forces were arrested, and tens of thousands were dismissed from their positions.
