Aronian Refuses to Compete Under the Armenian Flag: Clarification
Rumors have circulated online that Armenian chess prodigy Levon Aronian has decided to no longer compete under the Armenian flag and is planning to relocate permanently to the United States where he will represent the U.S. flag instead. According to the circulated information, the reason for this move is Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's failure to fulfill a promise.
“In the first months of becoming Prime Minister, Pashinyan met with Aronian and promised that he would solve the issues of acquiring a supercomputer and funding for a personal coach, so that Levon could fully prepare for the upcoming Candidates Tournament for the World Championship. However, as expected, he has not kept that promise,” the report states.
Aurora News has reached out to the Armenian Chess Federation to verify the authenticity of the news. We were informed that no clarification can be provided at this time, but details regarding the reasons for the decision to relocate to the U.S. and not compete under the Armenian flag will be released shortly.
