The Government of Armenia Sends Another Letter to the European Court of Human Rights in a New Format
The Government of Armenia filed an interstate complaint with the European Court of Human Rights on February 1 against Azerbaijan for violations of the Convention during the 44-day war and the subsequent period.
According to the office of the Armenian representative to the ECHR, the Armenian government asserts that Azerbaijan violated the rights to life, freedom from torture and inhuman treatment, integrity, property, personal and family life, education, and several other rights of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia.
The government has submitted numerous extensive pieces of evidence along with the complaint. Among other issues, the complaint raises questions regarding the protection of the rights of prisoners of war and civilians, internally displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh, killed and injured civilians and their relatives, property loss, and the rights of local and international media representatives.
This interstate complaint is a significant step in the legal process being conducted on behalf of the state against Azerbaijan. Notably, this is the first interstate complaint presented by Armenia to the European Court.
Additional substantial evidence supporting the claims already presented will be sent to the European Court in the near future. As before, the office of the Armenian representative to the ECHR will inform the public about further developments and actions taken.
