URGENT: Heavy Snowstorm in Syunik, Situation Expected to Worsen Between 15:00-16:00, Drivers Return and Await Further Instructions

Today, between 15:00-16:00, a snowstorm is forecasted to intensify, with wind speeds reaching up to 30 m/s, while in the Zangezour area, the wind may reach 15 m/s. The snowstorm is expected to subside and cease only by nighttime. This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia, which has advised drivers not to travel during this time.

“Dear compatriots, the heavy snowstorm that began yesterday in the Syunik region continues. The Goris-Sisian roadway and the Vardenyats Pass remain closed. Currently, there are significant traffic jams in the directions of Goris and Ishkhanasar. We urge these drivers not to expect an immediate change in the situation, as a snowstorm is anticipated to peak between 15:00-16:00, with wind speeds reaching up to 30 m/s, and 15 m/s in the Zangezour area. The snowstorm will only ease and stop by nighttime.

Dear drivers, we urge you to turn back and await further information regarding the passability of the mentioned road segment. Once again, we remind you not to attempt to traverse rural roads in this area as it may create additional difficulties.

It is also noteworthy that the Ministry of Emergency Situations, along with local self-government bodies, the road police, and other agencies, are actively working to remove stranded vehicles and provide assistance to citizens. Additional equipment has been deployed.
