European Countries Close Borders to Prevent Spread of Coronavirus
In Europe, new restrictive measures are being implemented against the backdrop of the spread of new coronavirus variants. The German government plans to prohibit the entry of travelers from countries where there are high rates of infection. This specifically includes Portugal, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil. There may be exceptions for cargo transport, according to euronews.
Norway has also announced the closure of its borders. Entry to the country is only allowed if there are compelling reasons. Healthcare workers from Sweden and Finland will be permitted to enter. Exceptions will also apply for cargo transport in Norway.
London is implementing mandatory quarantine for visitors arriving from Portugal, South America, and several African countries to the United Kingdom. Individuals will be required to stay in hotels for ten days, with penalties for violators. The aim is to prevent the introduction of new and potentially more dangerous variants of the coronavirus into the kingdom.
The World Health Organization confirms that, alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a deterioration in mental health. There has been an increase in suicide attempts and depressive moods among young people due to the restrictions related to the coronavirus. The WHO European Alliance for Mental Health intends to increase support for each country.
