Earth Inhabitants to Witness Multiple Eclipses and Meteor Showers in 2021
2021 promises to be a year filled with intriguing astronomical events for the residents of Earth. Notably, we can expect lunar and solar eclipses, meteor showers, the orbit of Jupiter's moons, and planetary alignments, as reported by Planet-today.
This year, two solar and two lunar eclipses are set to occur. The first eclipse will take place on May 26, when Earth's shadow will cover the Moon. Residents in the eastern regions of Russia will witness a partial lunar eclipse, while the phenomenon can be fully observed by those in Australia.
The second lunar eclipse will occur on November 19, and this time it will be fully visible from Russia, particularly from Kamchatka and Chukotka. From those locations, observers will also have the chance to see an annular solar eclipse on June 10. According to Roscosmos, this will be the first annular solar eclipse visible in Russia in half a century.
As for meteor showers, there will be seven this year. The first meteor shower will happen in mid-April, featuring the Lyrids. The most prominent meteor showers this year will be the Aquarids, Draconids, Perseids, and Geminids. The brightest meteor visible in 2021 will be Vesta, which on March 4 will enter the sign of Leo, shining at a magnitude of 5.8.
