Continued Theft of Sig Fish Species
Considering the letter from the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia dated November 30, 2020, and the five-sided action plan related to the spawning period of the 'Sig' fish species, measures have been taken to ensure the natural reproduction of fish. During December 2020 and January 2021, a joint monitoring and preventive action by the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, the 'Sevan' National Park, and law enforcement resulted in the confiscation of 5,153 pieces of 'Sig' fish, weighing a total of 1.837 kg, from the coastal and water surface area of Lake Sevan, particularly at the Sevan traffic police and Dilijan checkpoints. Additionally, 22 pieces of polyethylene fishing nets, each 100 meters long, were removed from Lake Sevan. The damage caused to wildlife has been assessed at 9,185,750 AMD.
The confiscated fish were handed over by the staff of the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body to the 'Sevan Mental Health Center' LLC, the 'Gavar' orphanage, the 'Dilijan' boarding school, and the Dilijan municipality, which distributed them to families temporarily residing from the Republic of Artsakh and the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
