Former MP to Remain in Custody
The Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, presided over by Judge Tatevik Grigoryan, rejected the motion to change the pre-trial detention of former National Assembly Member Levon Sargsyan.
Levon Sargsyan's lawyers had requested that their client be released on bail, leaving the amount of bail to the court's discretion. Levon Sargsyan will remain in custody.
It is noteworthy that Levon Hrachya Sargsyan has been charged with participating in a criminal group formed by Armenian citizens Ara Karapetyan and Arman Nikoghosyan, for the purpose of stealing property on a particularly large scale. He is accused of ordering and leading a robbery on October 27, 2008, targeting a private residence belonging to Armen Avetisyan, the former head of the State Revenue Committee, located at 34b Isahakyan Street in Yerevan.
