Pay for Contract Soldiers in Turkey Increases by 13.5 Percent in One Year
A new salary rate has been established for contract soldiers in Turkey, reports Ermeinhaber.
In the second half of last year, the salary amounted to 37,070 Turkish lira (approximately $5,000 at today’s exchange rate), while for the year 2021, this amount has been set at 39,788 lira ($5,384).
It is noteworthy that in the first half of 2020, the monthly salary for contract soldiers was 35,054 lira ($4,743). Thus, in the past year, the remuneration for contract soldiers has increased by 13.5 percent.
It is also remarkable that citizens residing abroad can also enlist for contract service in Turkey, with their salaries calculated based on the exchange rate established by the Central Bank on the first working day of the year.
Moreover, a proposal within the Turkish Parliament suggests that the salaries of mercenaries contracted from abroad should be calculated according to the exchange rate on the day of application submission.
