The Artsakh Republic's Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported that following the ceasefire agreement reached on November 9, 2020, Armenian and Azerbaijani sides have continued their search and exchange efforts for the remains of fallen soldiers since November 13, 2020.
On January 24, two additional remains were discovered during search operations: one from the Varanda/Fizuli region and the other from the area of Tum in the Hadrut region. Preliminary data indicates that the latter is a civilian.
A forensic examination has been commissioned to identify the remains found. From November 13, 2020, to January 24, 2021, the rescue teams of Artsakh have discovered 1,283 remains, of which, according to preliminary data, 15 are civilians who did not leave their homes for various reasons, and these locations are now outside the control of Artsakh. These individuals either fell victim to killings or died during hostilities due to shelling.
Preliminary information suggests that 1,268 of the remains belong to military personnel or volunteers and reservists who participated in the military operations. Search operations are currently ongoing in the Varanda/Fizuli, Jrakan/Jabrayil, and Hadrut regions, as well as in the Mataghis direction.
